Fresh White Powder!

Last week I was tearing up the pistes in Les Houches in the Chamonix valley. We had every condition possible most days. The first couple of days were sunbathing days with temperatures around 17 degrees so long lunches with cold beer were the order of the day. The rest of the week the temperatures dropped and we had a couple of big dumps of snow. The snow seemed to put most people off skiing so we had a couple of clear afternoons with deep fresh powder and literally no-one else on the mountain – perfect for myself being a boarder, Emma was not so happy skiing in it! Les Houches is a great little resort with mostly friendly tree lined runs and plenty of fun off-piste to keep you interested, especially with the 6 inches of fresh snow we had on our last day! We even had a play on a short section of north shore in the ‘Hidden Valley’ courtesy of our friend and local tour guide
.

We got back on Thursday evening and since Friday lunch time I have had a sore throat and cold which has played havoc with my post holiday training schedule. I ran up the stairs yesterday and nearly collapsed in a wheezing coughing heap on the floor so I think any form of real exercise will have to be postponed for a while. The problem with this is I am planning on riding at the Southern series XC at the weekend but may not have been on a bike for 2 weeks which is not ideal. I am also very conscious that I need to get some points on the board! With most of the team having ridden at Sherwood, along with Simons good results at the Soggy and Adams 5th at the Scottish series opener, I am quite a way behind already.

All being well I will be able to fit a couple of rides in towards the end of the week and not be too far off the pace come Sunday. I think it will definitely be beneficial to ride since the course will be largely be the same as the next BMBS and I can effectively treat this as an extended pre-ride. Hopefully see you all there.
