Sun, Riding and World Cups

What a difference the sun makes. I feel like I have been getting some good miles in over the last week or so, no coincidence that the sun has been out all that time! Got a lovely bikers tan during a 60 mile road ride with my local club on Saturday, very clear jersey, glove and shorts tan lines! Although not a particularly long distance, it was quite a sprinty ride with quite a few hills. I tried to spend as much time on the front as possible to make the most of the time.

On Sunday I went to Watlington, just east of Oxford, for a 20 mile MTB ride. Apparently it often appears in MBR in their killer loop section. I can understand why! In 20 miles we climbed 580m and probably spent about 10 minutes on roads. The rest of it was bridleways and singletrack with plenty of technical climbs and descents. I will definitely be making the effort to go back soon.

The additional bonus of staying local on Sunday was getting back in time to watch the World Cup at Dalby live on Freecaster. I am gutted I couldn’t make it up there but cant wait to see/ have a go at the climb out of Worry Gill that even the pro’s were struggling on, hopefully the course will be pretty similar for the 4th BMBS! Its amazing and a bit scary how easy they made everything look and how fast they go. Also, what a finish, you can’t really ask for more than a sprint finish between two of the best in the world. The coverage was pretty good considering the tight budget, although it was a shame they didn’t have a few more cameras in places like the big climb towards the end of the course (Nick Craig and Jenny Copnall kept saying it could be the most decisive point on the course) and Medusas Drop.
