Witchcraft

After the tough race on Sunday I was surprised my legs felt fine on Monday morning, possibly helped in part by one or more of the following: Consuming loads of bike food energy drink post race to top up muscle glycogen stores, drinking half a plantation worth of ground Hemp protein powder post race (you can find both of these products here), spending about half an hour after the race spinning up and down the road along side the finishing straight waiting for single-speeder (and mate from uni) Nick Scott to finish (in third would you believe!), wearing compression tights overnight after the race or just good old fashioned witchcraft! What ever it was, I plan to do the same after the next one! I also think everything hurts a lot less if the result was good! Rode to work on Monday morning for some active recovery but without really trying I managed to do a PB for this year which I was quite surprised at. Yesterday I was planning on going out with the local road club but I arrived at the meeting point at 18:03, an entirely acceptable time to arrive for a 6 O’clock meet in my opinion, but they had already gone. I was quite tempted to just go home and eat chocolate after this because I don’t really enjoy riding on my own but it was a nice day and I was still motivated from the weekend so I decided to do some race pace intervals. 4 x 10 minute race pace intervals with 10 minute spins in between. I did a route that didn’t give me many flat or downhill sections during the intervals so I had to really push for the whole time. It hurt like hell at the end of each interval but hopefully this will help me to build power that I can sustain for long periods and push for longer in races. Once I have got the hang of Garmin connect and got a new HRM I will start posting liks to my ride data so you can see what I am putting myself through!

Today more active recover and another PB on the way in! happy days! Looking forward to getting out for a couple of big rides in the sun this weekend…. Anyone fancy some big off-road hills in South Wales on Sunday?
