I
am now over a week down the line from my Sleepless in the Saddle 24
hour solo effort. The painful memories have all but gone, looking back
now it is as if it was a stroll in the park rather than a challenge. The
only thing reminding me otherwise are my first words as I stepped off
my bike at the finish line ringing through my head: “Never again!.”
I can say I am not in pain now, but I am by no means fully recovered.
I went for a fairly gentle 2 hour club road ride on Saturday which felt
fine bar the odd twinge in my knee. On Sunday I went out for another
gentle 2 hour ride with a local ‘triathlete’ and my right knee was
causing pain the whole way. Not enough to turn around, but definitely
noticeably more pain than Saturday. I have diagnosed it as a slight
strain of the medial ligament using the wonders of Wikipedia.
On Monday night I dragged Emma out for a short (6km) run to see how I
coped with other forms of exercise and I didn’t even notice the knee.
Because of this I am going to have a short break from the bike with
maybe just a gentle ride midweek. Maybe a couple more runs and possibly a
swimming session to keep me busy this week and ease back into full
training before the next Midlands round which will be my next race in 3
weeks time.
